STRAIGHT LINES TATTOO – LONDON
Looking for the Best Tattoo Studio in London?
The best tattoo studio in London is not the biggest shop on the high street. It is the one with the best artists for the tattoo you want.
Straight Lines Tattoo brings together 40+ of the best realism tattoo artists from around the world, resident and visiting, in one private studio. Very few studios anywhere work with a team of this size and level. Clients travel to us from across London, the UK and abroad, from America to Germany.
Since 2015 we have done one thing only: realism. Black and grey realism, colour realism, portraits and large scale custom work.

How to Choose a Tattoo Studio for Realism
Start with the work. Look at healed tattoos, not only fresh photos, and look for pieces in the style you want. A studio that does every style rarely does one style at the highest level.
Then look at who will tattoo you. The best tattoo studio in London should let you see every artist’s portfolio and match you with the artist who is strongest in your subject.
Finally, look at time. Realism cannot be rushed. A studio that books several clients into one artist’s day cannot give a detailed piece the hours it needs.
40+ World Class Realism Artists Under One Roof
Most tattoo studios have a handful of artists who cover every style. Straight Lines works the other way round. Every artist is a realism specialist, chosen for the quality of their portfolio.
Our team includes convention winners and artists featured in magazines such as Tattoo Society and Blackwerk. Some are resident, others fly in from abroad for guest spots, so the standard never drops.
With 40+ artists, we match the artist to your subject. A family portrait, a lion, a Greek god and a film scene each go to the artist who does that subject best. Very few teams give you that much choice, and it is what makes us the best tattoo studio in London for realism.
Realism Only, Nothing Else
Realism aims to look like a photograph on the skin. Fine detail, smooth shading and deep contrast make a portrait look alive and an animal’s eyes look real.
It is the hardest style to do well, and it is the only style we do. No fine line, no script, no quick small pieces, no walk ins.
We do not tattoo anything under A5. Realism needs room for the detail to hold as the tattoo heals and ages. A detailed face squeezed into too little skin loses the very detail that makes it realism.
Full Day Sessions, One Client, One Artist
At the best tattoo studio in London, your tattoo should never be rushed. Every booking at Straight Lines is a full day session of about 6 to 7 hours, by appointment only. The artist works on your tattoo and nobody else’s that day.
An A5 realism piece can often be finished in one full day. Sleeves, chest pieces and back pieces are built over several sessions. A full black and grey back usually takes around 6 to 10 full days, and colour backs take longer.
Prices depend on the artist you choose. We review your idea, placement and size first, then confirm the artist, the day rate and the likely number of sessions.
Portraits, Animals and Large Scale Tattoos
Portraits are where the best tattoo studio in London has to prove itself. Portrait tattoos keep a family member, a hero or an icon with you for life. The result depends on a sharp reference photo with strong light and contrast, so bring the best photos you have.
Lions, wolves, tigers and eagles are timeless realism subjects. Fur, eyes and texture take time and patience to look real up close.
Greek mythology, religious imagery, statues and film scenes all suit realism. Large pieces are planned as one design, so every subject, shadow and background flows into the next.

Black and Grey Realism Tattoos
Black and grey is the classic choice for realism. Without colour, everything depends on shading, contrast and texture, and that is where the skill shows.
Skin, stone, fur and smoke can be rendered with real depth. Strong darks and clean highlights keep the image readable as the tattoo heals and the skin changes over time.

Book Your Tattoo Consultation
For large or complex pieces, start with a consultation. You sit with the studio manager in person at our Loughton studio, go through your references and plan the design on Photoshop before your first session.
The consultation costs £50, and you can come back as many times as you need. Straightforward ideas can be designed with the artist on the day.
Tattoo Cover Ups That Transform
An old tattoo does not have to stay the way it is. The right realism cover up can turn a piece you regret into one you are proud to show.
Small and faded tattoos give the most freedom. The new design is planned so its darker areas sit over the old lines.
Larger or heavy black tattoos usually need laser sessions first to fade them, so the new realism work has a clean base. Send a clear photo and we will tell you what is possible.
Colour Realism Tattoos
Colour realism brings a tattoo to life. Skin tones, eyes, fire, flowers and film characters can be rendered with a depth that black and grey alone cannot give.
Colour realism at the best tattoo studio in London needs careful planning. Tones are chosen to suit your skin, and strong contrast is built in so the colours stay clear as the tattoo heals.
Our colour realism artists specialise in complex work where colour adds depth, atmosphere and drama to the final piece.
